Nestled into the hillside of Ramatuelle, overlooking the striking blue of the sea below, Villa Marie is an oasis of calm away from the bustling streets of St. Tropez.
This is escapism at its very best. Part of the renowned family-owned Sibuet hotel chain, Villa Marie lays within 7 ½ acres of pure beauty. Surrounded by the cooling shade of pine trees, every element of the beautiful natural surroundings are made a part of the experience. Indeed, even the natural rockface has been incorporated into the otherworldly outdoor Lagoon Pool. The surrounding nature is as therapeutic as the hotel itself. This is everything you would expect of a luxury hotel on the Riviera, and more.
Set in an Italian-style villa, designer Jocelyne Sibuet has created a rustic yet subtly opulent environment in which to welcome guests. Lush. Vivacious. Heavenly. There is no end to the superlatives one could use to describe the instant relaxation that sweeps over guests upon arrival.
Walking through the common areas of the hotel, it is all about the detail. Luxury fabrics interspersed with precious materials, and the careful placement of various antiques and other fascinating objects, brings a certain synchronicity with the beauty of the outside.
The impossibly stylish bedrooms are a mix of calming pastel colours, perfectly matched to the golden sunshine that beams through the large windows, with exposed architecture and antique furniture capturing this spirit of utter relaxation. The aptly named Dolce Vita restaurant is set within a greenhouse, surrounded with exotic plants and palms, transporting you instantly into a world of absolute requiescence. This is echoed by the carefully maintained gardens, a mixture of centuries old evergreens, a rose garden, and exotic cacti and herbs housed in another beautifully constructed greenhouse. You half expect to find woodland Nymphs frolicking in the pond.
Should the natural beauty of the place not relax you enough, the onsite spa is an experience in itself. Each of the Sibuet hotels use their own home grown spa treatments, taking inspiration yet again from nature using the innate qualities of over 200 different plants and minerals. With three stunning treatment rooms, you simply cannot beat the Himalayan Rose Regenerating Treatment in the outside alcove, surrounded by the beauty of the pine forests.
The family run business ensures that every aspect, no matter how small, is taken into great consideration to maintain the extremely high standards of the hotel. Indeed, each of their 10 ‘hotels’ (the word does not do them justice) are as beautiful as the last, unique and innovative in the careful integration of man-made buildings and nature. They really have managed to capture art de vivre at its very best.
